2014 year-end evaluation

According to the Facebook feature this year end, the whole 2014 was only preparation of wedding. Of course, to some extent I can't deny this. But I'm pretty sure I did more than that.

So I listed out the achievement and "first attempts" I did this year. I think this year is a pretty fruitful year. The list below is not rank by importance of chronological order:

1. Successfully prepared and completed my wedding
2. Completed 3 half marathon
3. Made the first step to career changing
4. Go bali trip
5. First volcano hike
6. First time visit Kuching
7. Join be frank program ran more than 300km with friends
8. First time visit I-city
9. Completed over 80% of the challenges in viper challenge
10. First stay in Malaysia guesthouse at melaka
11. Continued with Korean class after 5 years
12. Submitted thesis and pass viva

Preparation of wedding was of course the biggest achievement. But it's a tiring and complicated process which I will never want to do it again.

Other than wedding preparation, there are a few achievements which I'm really proud of this year. Although I'm not particularly proud of my masters years project, I'm glad that I've submitted my thesis and passed my viva.

Being an adventurous person, I really like to see my year summary to have first time experience of something I have never done in my lifetime. My proudest first attempt was hiking a volcano. It was a really cool attempt that I will never forget.

Another first attempt I really liked was the Viper Challenge. It was really challenging, some challenges made me feel my life at stake. Very thrilling and dangerous. I'm glad I achieved almost all the challenges. But I wont join it any time soon. It is too thrilling and I fail to persuade myself that Viper Challenge is safe.

Another achievement which I really proud with myself is that I finally found the courage to totally change career field. I've been thinking about this since 2012 but serious considering only happened early this year. Changing field from purely science research to market analyst is very daring. While some people might say "very bold", some might say "stupidity" but I would rather do it late than never. Since I already knew that I have zero interest in science, might as well change direction now than changing only when I'm in my 40s, right?

I look forward to 2015, a year with new job, new aspiration, and a new me. And since I'm planning to complete a full marathon this year, I'll start well in my first-attempt list.

30岁回到事业起跑点

回想起来,我读生物科技到做癌症研究已经有11年了.. 7年来在职场里,跌跌撞撞的以为只要还没倒下,就一定可以撑下去.浑然不觉自己对科学的热忱在大学时期早就死了... 硬撑着读生物科技也只是想要坚持当时高中时期的梦想. 当时年少无知,梦想可以天马行空.而现在的我可悲得连个梦想都没有,只好死死坚守着这个过期的梦想在职场里打转,白白浪费自己的青春.

30岁才有所领悟,才知道应该悬崖勒马,还不会太迟吧....

找工的时候心里有个声音不断告诉自己"只要不是有关科学的就可以了".很明显,这个过期的梦想已经超越了极限,我再也负荷不起了.是时候放下了.... 每次想到这6个字我就是忍不住泪水.是可惜我那白白浪费掉的11年吗? 还是心里的一部分还有对这过期的梦想些许不舍?

2013 review

2013 was a remarkable year for me. After the rather depressed year of 2012 and the first few months of 2013, it seems that my mood become better after Leong proposed to me in April. There were many big events around me and new achievements in 2013: 

1. Got declared as a wife 

2. Become an aunt

3. Visited Seoul for the first time (first international trip if Singapore is not considered one)

4. Voted in national election for the first time

5. Exhibited my painting in a joint exhibition for the first time

6. Started to contribute as an illustrator in a science magazine “Scientific Malaysian”, issue 6 (For the first time)

7. Went to G-dragon’s concert and gave him my painting of his portrait (gave present to a celebrity for the first time)

8. Stayed overnight in a boathouse for the first time (at Belum reserved forest)

9. Have my paintings hung in Dental faculty in UM for the first time

10. Have my paintings in calendar (CARIF calendar) for the first time

11. Saw a Masked Rider mascot for the first time!

12. Won an award in a science conference again

13. 2 scientific papers got accepted

14. Jogged 147.66km since 17 July 2013 to date (but only joined Night Shape Run and Newton Challenge)

15. Helped a friend in an upcycle workshop for a good cause

16. Met Aina whom I haven’t met for 15 years since secondary school

17. Sponsored a child from Thailand for the 2nd year (World Vision)

18. Did my 1st cosplay (not my intention or interest, just friend's and husband's request)

19. Finally visited Colmar Tropicale, Berjaya Hills

20. Eaten some weird bun (Paw pau)

22. Attended open day for friend's foreign language centre

It's 2014 now and I'm anticipating the good and interesting events in this year. I'm sure there are many. =)
